Best Friends Together expands into Oklahoma
The Alabama based non-profit will assist in funding vet bills for pet parents in financial distress when their pet is diagnosed with a treatable, life-threatening illness or emergency.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala — An Alabama-based nonprofit called Best Friends Together has officially expanded its service area into Oklahoma. Pets are increasingly a central part of many families. The average unexpected vet bill is around $800 to $1,500 depending on location, and every six seconds a pet parent is handed a vet bill for more than $3,000. Studies show that only 39% of Americans have enough money in savings to cover a $1,000 emergency. The choice to euthanize or surrender a pet for financial reasons often comes with enormous guilt and trauma. Best Friends Together will bridge the gap between what Alabama pet parents can afford and the cost required to save their pet’s life.
To qualify for assistance, pet owners must earn less than 55k a year for married couples or 30k for single people. Additionally, pet owners with higher incomes can show proof of recent financial hardship to qualify.
The founder of the non-profit, Jessica Kirkpatrick, believes that “nobody should have to choose between money and their best friend.”
